Additional Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down Information
|
2008 debut album from Noah and The Whale, who are adept at making earnest, poetic music. Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down is a collection of songs that muse on the connections between love, death and time. Though '5 Years Time' is the perfect invitation into their world, it is merely a piece of their puzzle. The songs move effortlessly from the epic grandeur of Arcade Fire to the intimate melancholy of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy but all with a very clear sense of Englishness.

It helps that my second favorite album of 2008 is Laura Marling's Alas, I Cannot Swim, as she sang backup vocals on this whole CD. Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down by Noah and the Whale is the best album of 2008. I think Charlie Fink is a genius and I can't wait to hear more of their music to come. I've listened to it more than any other album so far this year, and I do not get tired of it. I simply love it. Please come play California so I can finally see you. Thanks.
I bought this CD after hearing the group on NPR. Beautiful, truthful lyrics that stick with me through the day and unique instrumentals. Also, great album art.
Great debut with what accidentally appears to be a nice British take on Jonathan Richman. The slightly off-kilter vocals only add to the charm and wit of the songs, which ring honest with heart and freshness. So, yes, I dig.
This is a really solid debut album that shows a wide range of diversity. While the two "singles", Shape of My Heart and 5 Years Time are both really great, they aren't the only two songs on the album. I can listen over and over, not skip a song and seemingly never get bored. Definitely worth a listen and obviously a buy.
I got sucked in when I heard 5 Years Time on KEXP. The whole CD is just excellent and the songs are not all alike. I've been listening to this album over and over in the last few days with a dash of KaiserCartel thrown in here and there.
